USC wrapped up its rocky season by rolling over Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Cody Kessler passed for 344 yards and a bowl-record four touchdowns in the Trojans' 45-20 victory over the 21st-ranked Bulldogs on Saturday under Clay Helton, their third head coach in less than three months.

Marqise Lee and Nelson Agholor had two touchdown catches apiece, and the Trojans (10-4) routed a BCS contender for the storied program's first postseason victory since 2009.

"This is a team that hopefully will be remembered forever in USC history," said Kessler, the game's MVP who finished 22 for 30.

Derek Carr passed for just 217 yards and two TDs in his final game at Fresno State (11-2), which fell behind 35-6 at halftime.

Helton, the offensive coordinator, filled the one-game gap between coaches Ed Orgeron and Steve Sarkisian. However, USC picked up right where Orgeron left off after its desultory start to the season under Lane Kiffin.

Carr, the nation's leader in yards passing and total offense, became the fourth player in NCAA history to surpass 5,000 yards passing and 50 TD passes during the game. He went 30 for 54 under constant pressure from blitzing USC.

  • Sarkisian would like to retain Helton as offensive coordinator and also offered the tight ends job to Washington interim coach Marques Tuiasosopo.

Colorado State 48, Washington State 45: Jared Roberts made a 41-yard field goal with three seconds remaining, and the Rams (8-6) overcame a 22-point deficit to beat the Cougars (6-7) in the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque.

With less than two minutes left, Washington State running back Jeremiah Laufasa fumbled at the Cougars 33. That set up Kapri Bibbs' 1-yard TD run and Donnell Alexander's two-point conversion run that tied it with 33 seconds left.

Then, Washington State's Teondray Caldwell fumbled a kickoff return at the Cougars 24, setting up the winning field goal.

"Colorado State finished the game. We didn't," Cougars coach Mike Leach said. "You need to go out and finish the game."

Garrett Grayson threw for 369 yards and Bibbs ran for 169 yards and three TDs for the Rams.

Connor Halliday threw touchdown passes to six receivers and finished with 410 yards for the Cougars. Halliday and Rams assistant coach Greg Lupfer also had an exchange after Halliday threw his first TD pass.

"The coach grabbed me and said some profane things," Halliday said. "That's all I'll say about it."

Lupfer said, "I am truly sorry for what I said."

San Diego State 49, Buffalo 24: Adam Muema ran for 229 yards and three touchdowns and Quinn Kaehler threw two scoring passes as the Aztecs (8-5) defeated the Bulls (8-5) in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise.

Louisiana-Lafayette 24, Tulane 21: Corey Trim returned a Nick Montana interception 82 yards for a touchdown, Hunter Stover hit a go-ahead 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, and the Ragin' Cajuns (9-4) held off the Green Wave (7-6) for their third straight New Orleans Bowl win. Tulane set up for a 48-yard field goal try in the final seconds, but Cairo Santos missed just left. Devin Powell replaced Montana in the first half and passed for 223 yards. Montana finished 5 of 8 for 63 yards.
