HAYWARD -- After a one-year hiatus, the Stonebrae Classic, a Web.com Tour event, will return to TPC Stonebrae in the Hayward Hills, July 28-Aug. 3, the PGA Tour announced.
Formerly a Nationwide Tour event, the tournament was hosted by TPC Stonebrae from 2009 to 2012. Its four winners were Alex Aragon, Daniel Chopra, Kevin Chappell and Michael Sim.
The event, formerly held in April, had been plagued by poor weather -- Chopra of Sweden earned a fog-abbreviated victory in 2011, and Aragon won in 2012 in an event in which fog delayed the start of play three of the four days.
Organizers say the tournament was not played last year to make room for construction of a 32,000-square foot clubhouse, which is set to open in June.
"Our new summer date will be perfect for both weather and remarkable golf course conditions," TPC Stonebrae general manager Eric Jacobsen said in a release. "Players who have competed here in the past will experience markedly different playing conditions."
Former Cal stars Max Homa and Michael Kim are members on the Web.com Tour this year.
