Stanford assistant coach Lance Anderson has been promoted to the role of defensive coordinator, the school announced Friday.
Anderson joined the Cardinal as a member of Jim Harbaugh's first staff (2007). He coached outside linebackers for the past four years and will continue to oversee that position.
He replaces Derek Mason, who was named Vanderbilt's head coach last week.
"Lance has worked under two of the best defensive minds in football in Vic Fangio and Derek Mason," Cardinal coach David Shaw said
"He will continue our defensive tradition of being aggressive, being physical and setting the tone for how we play football here at Stanford University."
