Derrick Marks scored the first seven points, sparking a 25-0 run to open the game as No. 6 seed Boise State crushed 11th-seeded San Jose State 83-52 Wednesday night in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference tournament in Las Vegas.

Marks had 17 points to lead the Broncos, who earned their first Mountain West tournament win in record style. The 31-point win is the largest margin in the 15-year history of the tournament, surpassing BYU's 27-point victory over Colorado State in 2008. The 135 points is the most scored, and 46 first-half points in an opening-round record.

San Jose State missed its first nine shots before Chris Cunningham made his second free throw attempt at 10:56. The Spartans had their worst shooting half of the season, making 4 of 27 attempts (14.8 percent).

Rashad Muhammad scored 13 points and Cunningham 11 to lead San Jose State (7-24), which concluded its inaugural season in the conference. Boise State (20-12) faces third-seeded Nevada (15-16) in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Utah State 73, Colorado State 69: Spencer Butterfield's 3-pointer and subsequent go-ahead free throws, after a Colorado State technical foul, keyed the Aggies' (18-13) win over the Rams (16-16) in the MWC tournament.

Fresno State 61, Air Force 59: Tyler Johnson scored 19 points, including two 3-pointers in the final two minutes, as the Bulldogs (17-15) defeated the Falcons (12-18) in the MWC tournament quarterfinal game Wednesday.

Patriot League: Tony Wroblicky had 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks to help American University (20-12) beat top-seeded Boston University (24-10) 55-36 in the Patriot League title game, sending the Eagles to the NCAA tournament for the first time in five years.

Loyola Marymount: Max Good is out as coach at Loyola Marymount after six seasons. The Lions finished 13-19 and 4-14 in league play this season. Good had a record of 77-117 overall at LMU, and a 27-65 mark in WCC games.

Auburn: The school has fired coach Tony Barbee. The Tigers finished 14-16, 6-12 in the Southeastern Conference this season and had losing records in all four of Barbee's seasons.

Baylor uniforms: Baylor is causing another stir with its uniforms at the Big 12 tournament. The NCAA told the school it wouldn't be allowed to wear new uniform designs from adidas that have "Sic 'Em Bears" on the front. The NCAA said only the school name or traditional nicknames like "Bears" are allowed on the front of game uniforms. Baylor made a splash at the Big 12 tournament a couple years ago with its neon yellow uniforms.
