Cal, Stanford and San Jose State earned berths Monday to the NCAA women's gymnastics championships.

The No. 19 Bears and No. 31 Spartans are set for the Minneapolis Regional on April 5. The No. 10 Cardinal is headed to the Baton Rouge (La.) Regional, also April 5.

The national championships are April 18-20 in Birmingham, Ala.

College baseball

Fifth-ranked Cal Poly (20-4) beat visiting Cal 16-8 to take three games in the four-game series. Brenden Farney was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for the Bears (11-12), and Chris Paul was 3 for 5 with a triple and an RBI.

College basketball

Saint Mary's (23-10) rallied late but fell to host UTEP (26-7) 76-64 in the second round of the WNIT. Jackie Nared led the Gaels with 19 points, and Danielle Mauldin had 15.

College softball

No. 11/8 Arizona State scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to beat No. 24/23 Stanford 7-5, completing a three-game series sweep over the Cardinal (23-11, 1-5 Pac-12) in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils (30-5, 4-2) had three hits and capitalized on two Cardinal errors in the seventh. Cheyenne Coyle ended it with a three-run homer.

Obituary

Sam R. Morley, a former Stanford All-America receiver who also enjoyed a career as an attorney, has died. He was 81. He died at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View on Jan. 25. Morley lettered in football at Stanford from 1951-53 and in basketball in 1953.
