St. Mary's High teammates Mikayla Cowling and Gabby Green helped the West beat the East team, which included Salesian's Mariya Moore 80-78 at the girls McDonald's All-American game in Chicago.

Cowling, who will remain teammates with Green at Cal next year, had 10 points, four rebounds plus a handful of steals, assists and blocks. The 6-foot-1 wing also forced a turnover with just over a minute left that set up the game-winning basket for the West. Green, a 6-foot-1 guard, had four rebounds to go with two points, two assists and two steals.

Moore, a 6-foot wing who played on the East squad as a Louisville commit, finished with six points and five rebounds.

College

Stanford's Kristian Ipsen, a Clayton native who attended De La Salle High, was voted the Pac-12 Men's Diver of the Year. Ipsen won diver of the year honors for the second-straight time after defending his 1-meter title at the Pac-12 Championships and finishing second in the 1-meter and third in the platform competitions. In national contention, the Olympian added to his All-America honors count after placing in the top 10 in all three events.

  • Cal men's swimming and diving coach David Durden was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year, and freshman Ryan Murphy was named Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year.

  • The Saint Mary's baseball team (13-14) was beaten by host UC Davis (13-12) in a nonconference game rescheduled from Tuesday. Saint Mary's collected five hits, all singles.

  • The Cal softball team (20-11) scored nine runs in the fourth inning against Pacific to claim its tenth consecutive victory, 9-0, in five innings in Stockton. Seniors LaRisa Jones (3 for 3, one run) and Victoria Jones (2 for 2, two runs, two RBIs, one homer) paced the offense in the nonconference win. Freshman Stephanie Trzcinski (4-3) earned her second shutout in a three-hit performance after giving up a walk and striking out five.

  • Saint Mary's sand volleyball team (4-0) rallied for a 3-2 victory against USF at Piper Park in Larkspur.
