Deer Valley wins San Ramon Invitational The Deer Valley High boys volleyball team proved it remains one of the elite teams in the Bay Area after it won all of its matches at the San Ramon Invitational without dropping a set. The Wolverines (11-1) defeated Alhambra 25-11, 25-15, Berean Christian 25-18, 25-19, Lowell-San Francisco 26-24, 25-20 and Berean Christian 25-15, 25-21 in the Gold Division final. Jacob Evans and Jordan Ewert led the Wolverines attack throughout the tournament.

Patriots finish strong at Stampede After losing its first game 2-1 to Monte Vista, the Heritage High softball team rebounded and won three of its four remaining games at the Livermore Stampede. Heritage defeated Vintage-Napa 7-6 in the Bronco Division semifinal and then Sheldon-Sacramento 8-7 in the ninth place game on April 5. The Patriots (8-4) will now gear up for their first game of Bay Valley Athletic League play on April 15 against Pittsburg.

Mustangs climb the BVC standings After losing four consecutive games, the Los Medanos College baseball team moved into a tie for second place in the Bay Valley Conference standings with a three-game sweep over Solano. The Mustangs trail first place Marin (15-12, 9-3 BVC) by two games, and entered the week 16-11 overall and 7-5 in the BVC.

On deck Deer Valley at Pleasant Valley-Chico, boys volleyball, April 11, 5 p.m. -- Deer Valley hopes to keep the momentum rolling when it travels to Chico to face the host team, Pleasant Valley, in the first game of the Pleasant Valley Invitational. Mendocino at Los Medanos, baseball, April 12, 10 a.m. -- The Mustangs (7-5) hope to fend off the Eagles (6-6) when they host Mendocino for the last time this season.
Stars of the week Sergio Bustos, Pittsburg, baseball -- Bustos earned the win in the Pirates 5-3 victory over John Swett on April 5. Bustos struck out seven batters, and allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings. Jacobs Evans, Deer Valley, boys volleyball -- Evans accumulated 118 assists in four matches at the San Ramon Invitational. Jordan Ewert, Deer Valley, boys volleyball -- Ewert led the Wolverines with 52 kills at the San Ramon Invitational. Chaz Meadows, Los Medanos, baseball -- In a three-game series against Solano, Meadows ignited the Mustangs offense. He racked up five hits, drove in three runs and scored four times. Kim Trice, Heritage, softball -- Trice, a junior, made the All-Tournament Team at the Livermore Stampede after she helped the Patriots to a ninth place finish.
