After falling behind early, host Heritage scored 21 consecutive points and then held on to improve to 5-0 all-time in the Brentwood Bowl.

Liberty took the lead, but was unable to hold it for the second straight year in this rivalry. The Lions (2-5, 0-2) marched 87 yards on a methodical 13-play opening drive for a 7-0 lead, capped when Cody Suckow hit Christian Smith in the left flat for a 10-yard touchdown.

Heritage (4-3, 2-0 BVAL) answered in the second quarter with a 10-yard touchdown from Carter to Kejhan Clayton, and when Clayton scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter the Patriots took a lead they would never relinquish.

Liberty cut the lead to 21-14 early in the fourth, but the Patriots used a trick play to keep the lead comfortable. On third-and-3, fullback Carson Cleverly, also the backup quarterback, took a handoff from Carter, faked a sweep and then launched a pass down field to a wide-open Jasper Dhaliwal for 43 yards. Carter scored on a quarterback keeper two plays later to put the Patriots up 28-14 with 3:27 remaining.
