A blocked punt by Drew Gaylord with less than five minutes remaining sealed a Dons victory and ruined the Wildcats' homecoming.

Gaylord's block came with Acalanes holding a 21-14 lead, and set up the Dons' ensuing possession at the Dougherty Valley 20-yard line. Running back Carson Gardner then converted that turnover into his second touchdown of the night four plays later on a 2-yard run to complete the game's scoring.

Both of Gardner's touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, which helped break a 14-14 tie after the first three quarters.

The running game carried both teams, with Acalanes outgainining Dougherty Valley, 322-283 yards on the ground. Peter Mitchell and Aaron Edwards headlined the attack, as each finished with 106 and 81 rushing yards, respectively.

Acalanes (4-4, 2-2 DFAL) not only kept Dougherty Valley (3-4, 0-3 DFAL) from its first Diablo Foothill Athletic League victory this season, but ruined an impressive performance from Wildcat running back Xavier Vaesau. The senior rushed for 271 yards on 31 carries, including a pair of scores.
