Amanda Bynes canceled a hearing requested by her own attorney aimed a getting her released from a psychiatric because she wanted her drugs to kick in before she speaks with the judge, according to TMZ.

By drugs, she means legal ones ... I think.

Bynes has been on a psychiatric hold for a week, after she started a fire in the driveway of an elderly woman in Thousand Oaks, in her parents' Southern California neighborhood.

A judge on Thursday ordered Bynes' 72-hour psych hold to be extended to two weeks. Her attorney immediately filed papers asking the order to be lifted and for Bynes to be freed. The hearing was to take place Friday afternoon at the unnamed facility where Bynes is staying.

TMZ quoted sources close to the case as saying Bynes and her lawyer has asked for another hearing later this week. The thinking was that by that time, her medication may help her present a better case.

This idea is a new one, as Bynes has steadfastly refused for months to acknowledge she has any condition requiring medication.

The hearing is set for Thursday, Aug. 1.
