  • "Community" (8 p.m., NBC.): The hysterical campus sitcom launches its fifth season with a pair of episodes. The first has Jeff (Joel McHale) returning to Greendale to gather evidence for a lawsuit.

  • "The Assets" (10 p.m., ABC.): Set in 1985, this new eight-part miniseries is based on the real-life efforts of a CIA counterintelligence officer (Jodie Whittaker) to unmask a traitorous mole. Harriet Walter and Paul Rhys also star.

  • "Elementary" (10 p.m., CBS): Natalie Dormer returns to the popular crime series, reprising her role as Moriarty, the arch nemesis of Sherlock Holmes. She is brought in as a consultant on a kidnapping case.
