"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" hasn't become the blockbuster hit that ABC had hoped for, but Paul Lee, the network's entertainment chief, believes it can catch fire over its final nine episodes of the season.
Among the highlights of the show's stretch run: Jaimie Alexander's character from "Thor," Lady Sif, will be appearing in the 15th episode.
"We're shooting it now. Jaimie Alexander is there," Lee told reporters Friday at the TV critics press tour. "That's going to be absolutely integral to that hour of television."
In addition, Lee promised that fans will soon discover the identity of the Clairvoyant, the mysterious force that has been wreaking havoc for Coulsen and his team
"It's going to be very, very cool," Lee said of the story arc.
Though Lee admits that the steep ratings drop "Agents" experienced after its big fall debut was troubling, he said he is feeling "very, very good" about the creative direction the show is taking.
"It took us a little bit of time to find our sea legs," he said. "... and to find the balance between a procedural and an arc."
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns to ABC on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m.
