Philip Seymour Hoffman's apparently wanted to keep his kids away from Hollywood.

TMZ obtained a copy of the late actor's will, which was written in 2004, when he only had son Cooper (he since fathered two more children, all three with longtime partner Mimi O'Donnell). Hoffman wanted Cooper to be raised in Manhattan and, if that didn't work, Chicago or San Francisco. He reportedly wanted him to be surrounded by Manhattan's culture, arts and architecture.

If he couldn't live in any of those cities, Hoffman wrote, then he wanted his son to visit those cities at least twice a year.

Even though Hoffman was a big star who spent a lot of time in Los Angeles, that city didn't make the list.

That's right. Hollywood is no place for children ... unless they can make Disney some cash.

Hoffman left his entire estate to O'Donnell.
