The 2014 South by Southwest will feature more than 40 Bay Area acts.
This strong showing -- at an event that draws both top headliners and up-and-coming acts from around the globe -- is a definite sign that the Bay Area music scene is alive and well.
We're spotlighting some of the Bay Area acts headed to SXSW, the highly prestigious music festival and conference that runs March 11-16 in Austin, Texas.
This time around, we spotlight Oakland's Ezra Furman and San Francisco's Angelo Moore and The Brand New Step.
Ezra Furman -- He's a fabulous songwriter, who crafts curious, catchy tales that bring to mind such masters as Robyn Hitchcock, Neil Finn and Jeff Tweedy. What else, really, do you need to know about this Oakland musician?

Angelo Moore and The Brand New Step -- Yes, that Angelo Moore -- the legendary lead singer of the L.A. funk-rock act Fishbone. His new San Francisco-based project doesn't sound like Fishbone. Instead, Brand New Step is a smooth soul-pop outfit that might appeal to Gnarls Barkley fans.
