Mick Jagger's longtime girlfriend did in fact kill herself by hanging, the New York City Medical Examiner's office confirmed late Wednesday.

Fashion designer L'Wren Scott, 49, apparently used a scarf to hang herself from a door knob in her Chelsea apartment on Monday, Newsday reported. She didn't leave a note and there were no signs of drugs or foul play, police told Newsday.

While investigators haven't revealed a motive, those close to the designer said her company LS Fashion LTD was in serious financial trouble, amassing a net loss of more than $5.5 million in 2012, according to multiple news reports.

L'Wren and Jagger had been together for 13 years. Earlier this week, Jagger posted a tribute to her on his website and the Rolling Stones canceled seven shows in Australia and New Zealand so the singer could return to New York to help with funeral arrangements.
