Local tourist

Godzilla destroyed it. Sam Spade walked its alleys. And even James Bond roared through. In fact, San Francisco has starred in so many movies, there are bus tours devoted to its famous film sites. Now you can take your own with, of course, an app. MapHook, an interactive social media map app, has a new SF Movie Map with pop-up movie trivia, photos and videos linked to the spots where "Vertigo" and "Blue Jasmine," and other flicks were filmed. Find the app at Google Play and iTunes. Find the film-tastic map on the app under San Francisco's "featured hooks."

P.S. You'll find more Hollywood glamour and wax celebrity sightings at the new Madame Tussauds on Fisherman's Wharf, where the newest local hero to get the Tussaud treatment will be Los Angeles Laker and Bay Area boy Jeremy Lin.

MapHook’s newest feature is a movie-centric tour of San Francisco.

Chubby bears, fall leaves

If you're heading for Yellowstone National Park this fall, during that peaceful lull between tourist hordes and frosty temps, you might want to check out the doings in "Yellowstone Country," or what we nonmarketing types call "three Wyoming towns near a major tourist attraction." Cody, Wyoming, may lack cachet but if you're in the land of Old Faithful and enjoy cowboy lore, fall color and elk, it's worth a detour. Autumn leaves and animals can be enjoyed from the air: Airborne Over Cody offers 30- to 90-minute powered hang gliding treks -- in an ultralight hang glider with a pilot to do the takeoff and landing ($140 and up; www.airborneovercody.com). And the Buffalo Bill Museumhas just undergone a reinstallation (http://centerofthewest.org).
