Bristol Palins' ex-fiance wants custody of the new baby girl they made together before their plans to marry collapsed last spring.
Dakota Meyer, 27, took to Instagram last week to go public about his paternity of Sailor Grace Palin, who was born Dec. 23. His social media announcement came just before news surfaced on TMZ on Tuesday that Meyer filed court documents, seeking joint legal and physical custody. Meyer also wants child support from Palin, TMZ reported.
The former Marine sergeant, who was decorated for bravery in Afghanistan, must presume that the 25-year-old Palin is sitting pretty from her reality show ventures and her public speaking engagements on sexual responsibility and abstinence.
Sailor Grace is the second child Palin has had out of wedlock. She first became a figure of national media attention when her mother, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, was named the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008. At the time, the teen high school student was pregnant.
Bristol Palin, who has spoken out publicly against distributing birth control to young, low-income women, and Meyer called off their engagement a week before their scheduled May wedding. They have since been estranged.
In response to Meyer's decision to seek joint custody and child support, Sarah Palin slammed him in a statement to ET, saying he just wanted to save face, according to USA Today.
"For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers (sic) and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol's pregnancy or the baby," Sarah Palin said.
Bristol Palin had her publicist issue a statement in which she touted her integrity and wholesome values: "My values are such that a real American hero doesn't ask for child support."
