STANFORD — Stanford will likely be without its top receiver, sophomore Ty Montgomery, when the Cardinal visits No. 7 Notre Dame on Saturday.
The Irish are ranked in the top 20 in the nation in every major statistical category and have not allowed more than 17 points in a game this season.
Montgomery, who injured his knee in last week's victory over Arizona, leads all Stanford receivers in receptions (18) and yards per game (33.6).
"He's probably not going to play,'' Cardinal coach David Shaw said Tuesday.
Senior Jamal-Rashad Patterson will take Montgomery's spot in the lineup. Patterson has four catches for 100 yards this season.
Montgomery's absence will resonate on special teams, as well. He averages 26.6 yards per kick return, fourth in the Pac-12 conference.
Cornerback Terrence Brown, who left the Arizona game after being kicked in the head, is expected to play, Shaw said.
