The Contra Costa County Horsemen's Association will put on a benefit schooling show and play day fundraiser to help the Salvation Army stock its food pantry for Thanksgiving and assist 3,500 needy families.

The event, open to the public, is Oct. 31, at the Don Fernando Pacheco Adobe, 3119 Grant St. (adjacent to Hillcrest Community Park), in Concord. Gates open at 7 a.m., and classes start at 9 a.m.

Those attending are asked to bring cans or boxes of nonperishable food, which will be donated to the Salvation Army. With seven donated items, the first 50 riders will receive a free bag of All in One horse feed.

There will be a costume contest for the horse, rider or both; halter and showmanship events, and walking and jumping classes in age groups for beginners (no age limit); special needs; 17 and under; and 18 and older.

The Snack Shack will be open for breakfast and lunch. Entry forms will be available the day of the show, which will still be held in the event of light or on-and-off showers.
