Tree toppled in strong winds

Patrick and Mary King of Pleasant Hill watch as a crane from Waraner Brothers Tree Service lifts a large piece of a redwood tree that fell in their front yard on Mohawk Drive on Oct. 27. The King's home and car were damaged when the 150-foot, 80-year-old tree fell during strong winds that buffeted the Bay Area. The winds were also cited as a contributing factor to the two metal tie rods and cross piece that crashed down on the Bay Bridge, hitting a truck and two cars, and closing the span for six days while repairs were undertaken.
