Record adventure

During the first week of August, the Berriman family of Martinez — Bill, Cheryl, Sean, 12, and Billy, 8 — packed up their pickup to explore the coast of Northern California and southern Oregon. In Redwood National Park near Orick, Bill, Billy and Sean caught up with the community news in the Pleasant Hill/Martinez Record while crossing a creek on the road to Fern Canyon at Golf Bluffs Beach. Then it was on from California's Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park to Oregon to visit Crater Lake National Park and Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The Berrimans took the opportunity to ride jet boats — their favorite adventure — 40 miles up the Lower Rogue River from Gold Beach to Watson Creek, while watching bald eagles, river otters, mink, deer and osprey swimming with a large salmon.

Is the economy making you rethink your travel plans? Are you reducing your week in England to an overnight in Eureka? It doesn't matter if your time away is spent across the Bay or up the coast — remember to pack the Record to keep up with news of the community, and then show your neighbors where you have been. Send your photo and information to Record on the Road, c/o the Pleasant Hill/Martinez Record, 2640 Shadelands Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94598, or e-mail in .jpg format to record@bayareanewsgroup.com.
