Read our transcript of our Thursday, December 17, 2009 live chat with staff writers Sandy Kleffman and Suzanne Bohan, who joined Dr. David Satcher, former U.S. Surgeon General and former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Also joining the live chat was Rich Hamburg, deputy director of Trust for America's Health.

Satcher currently heads the Satcher Health Leadership Institute in Georgia, which trains public health leaders on strategies for reducing U.S. health disparities. The Trust for America's Health, a Washington, D.C. nonprofit, is focused on expanding the role of disease prevention in health care policies, including the current health care reform legislation in Congress.

All commented on what effect, if any, health care reform will have in closing this health disparities gap, as well as other topics raised by participants.
