Vacaville police shot and killed a knife-wielding man in the parking lot in front of the police department at City Hall on Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the lot following reports of a suspicious person at the department. The responding officer was confronted by the suspect brandishing a knife, officials said. The suspect made verbal threats and threatening movements and the officer fired at least two shots hitting the suspect in the upper right chest and lower left chest.

Crews blocked off streets in the area and the suspect was taken via ground ambulance to Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville where he later died.

The name of the suspect has not been released pending notification of next of kin. He was apparently in his 50s, officials said.
