OAKLAND -- A man was struck by a train at the Lake Merritt BART Station Friday afternoon, a BART spokesperson said.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m., BART spokesperson Alicia Trost said. The man's condition was not immediately known, but the man was said to be alert, responsive, walking and talking before being taken to the hospital about 3:35 p.m., officials said.
It was not known how the man came to be on the tracks, Trost said. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a suicide attempt.
Though service through the station was restored as of 3:50 p.m., the incident is likely to cause significant delays on the Fremont line in both directions, Trost said.
