HAYWARD -- A 67-year-old Hayward man was killed and a 26-year-old Hayward motorcyclist was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence after a Saturday night crash, authorities said.
The motorcyclist, identified Sunday afternoon as Dylan Kaneiki, had alcohol in his system and was traveling at a "high rate of speed" when he collided with the pedestrian, who was walking across Jackson Street at Silva Avenue around 8:54 p.m., Hayward police said.
The victim, later identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Office as Manuel Herrera, was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
Kaneiki was treated at Eden for injuries he suffered after the collision ejected him from his motorcycle, police said. He was wearing a helmet.
He was booked into Santa Rita Jail on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing bodily injury. His bail was set at $260,000.
The crash remains under investigation.
