BELMONT -- Police are looking for the driver of a black Mercedes sedan that struck a disabled woman in a wheelchair and left before officers arrived.

The woman was headed south in a motorized wheelchair around 6:45 p.m. Thursday on the sidewalk along El Camino Real when the Mercedes turned into the driveway of a McDonald's restaurant, hitting her, Belmont police said. The woman was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The motorist had some sort of interaction with the woman before driving away, police said, but the woman's disability has made it hard to figure out what occurred.

Police are urging the driver of the Mercedes to come forward. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Belmont police at 650-595-7400.
