LOS ALTOS HILLS -- A 53-year-old San Jose man driving in a white pickup died when the truck fishtailed off Interstate 280 near Los Altos Hills and hit the center divide, the California Highway Patrol said.
The Ford truck was southbound on I-280 around 12:08 p.m. when the wreck occurred about a mile north of the Foothill Expressway off-ramp, Officer Arturo Montiel reported.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:27 p.m. after rescue attempts by Redwood City fire paramedics.
His identity was not released pending notification of relatives.
Witnesses told officers at the scene that traffic was flowing normally, and police said the man was driving 55 to 60 mph when the crash occurred, the CHP reported.

The truck was in the far right lane when it suddenly veered right and hit the shoulder barrier, then fishtailed back across all four lanes of traffic and hit the center divide where it came to rest, according to Montiel.
Authorities are investigating why the truck suddenly swerved, but Montiel said it appears drugs and alcohol were not a factor. Police are investigating whether the man may have suffered a medical problem preceding the crash.
No other cars were involved, and nobody else was injured, Montiel said.
