New works have been at the heart of TheatreWorks since the company's founding in 1970 but in recent years its world premiere track record has been stellar, most notably with the Broadway hit "Memphis."
Led by Meredith McDonough, the jam-packed schedule for the 11th annual new works fest runs Aug. 5-19 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Rd. Palo Alto. The lineup includes two new plays, two new musicals and a panel discussion.
Highlights include Paul Gordon's "Being Earnest," a swingin' '60s twist on Oscar Wilde, "Triangle," a drama about the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire and "The Trouble with Doug,"a quirky musical comedy homage to Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis."
Tickets range $19-$25 ($65 for a festival pass). 650-463-1960. www.theatreworks.org.
