TRACY -- She can't read yet, but Carly Abercrombie has published a book of her own.

While most kids are buying pencils and getting ready for back-to-school, 5-year-old Carly Abercrombie is planning her first book signing for "The World According to Carly."

The 20-page book of the wit and wisdom of the precocious Tracy girl will be on display and sold Saturday, Aug. 18 at West Valley Mall as a fundraiser for the Brighter Christmas organization of Tracy.

Although she can't read, Carly knows how to write her name, and Carly will autograph every copy sold.

"The book started off by accident," said Steve Abercrombie, Carly's dad. "A while back I started jotting down things she said and shared them on Facebook. I received so much feedback from people who enjoyed them, and it was suggested a book should be made out of them. From that idea we searched for someone to do the art work and it has all come together in this book."

Although she can't read, her own humor isn't lost on Carly.

"My dad is still cracking up from the book," she said. "I like to make my dad laugh."

The 20 page book shares all sorts of everyday situations that become humorous through the perspective of a young child.

On page 9, Abercrombie shares a story about Carly's older brother Cody bringing home a girlfriend for the first time:

On page 14, the story is about Carly flying with her family to Denver to see her older brother, Kyle, graduate from boot camp. After a rough landing, Carly walks to the front of the plane and announces to the captain, "I did not like the bumpies, and I am not riding with you again."

"I purchased an advance copy of this book last week," said Manteca resident Sharon Davis. "I found the stories very funny and based on some of the quotes it's hard to believe she is only 5-years-old. I'm glad the proceeds will be helping out Brighter Christmas, because they do so much for families. I think it's a great way to raise funds for charity."

Carly has raised funds for Brighter Christmas before. Last year, Carly participated in the Brighter Christmas Jail and raised $7,000 for the group.

In 2011 the non-profit organization helped over 900 families and 2,000 children have a Christmas complete with new toys and food baskets.

Book sales of "The World According to Carly," have brought in just over $400 so far since it debuted July 18. The goal is to double that amount at the Aug. 18 book signing.

"I am glad I can help kids who don't have toys have a happy Christmas," said Carly.
