PLEASANTON -- High-speed bike racers, amateurs and pros, awed downtown crowds Sunday during the second Safeway Fast and Furious Festival.
Streets were closed off from the morning -- the first of 17 races started on Main Street at 8 a.m. with a 5K fun run and walk -- until the evening's highlighted professional bike race.
A total of $14,500 in prize money was given out for the pro events.
The festival, organized by two men from San Ramon and Danville, is a fundraiser for the ALS Association, a group that promotes research for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
