Pierre, a 7-year-old "tuxedo" cat with a special affinity for office environments, may be the first feline to seek a new home through the online professional network LinkedIn.
His profile on the site (www.linkedin.com/pub/pierre-cat/58/375/96) describes him as "head cat" at the Tony LaRussa Animal Rescue Foundation in Walnut Creek and boasts that he was educated at the A-CAT-emy of Feline Sciences.
"Experienced office cat with larger-than-life personality seeks full-time, long-term position," Pierre's profile reads. "Ideal work environment includes carpeted office or home office with windows, laid-back style, and feline-loving co-workers. Pierre
He lists his "purr-sonal skills" as the ability to work independently, contribute to low-stress environment, and to dress-to-impress in tuxedo attire. For his salary, he asks for medical benefits, litter box, bed, baths, food, toys, head and cheek rubs, an employee exercise plan and a generous nap package.
The unusual use of social networking to find an adoptive home was chosen, says Sara Kersey, marketing manager at the no-kill shelter, after volunteers realized that Pierre loves being in an open workplace environment.
The cat came to ARF in 2010 weighing almost 40 pounds and could barely walk. But in the two years since being rescued,
ARF is hoping that developing Pierre's LinkedIn profile, where people can follow his "job" search, and by creating a resume for him and posting two YouTube videos (http://youtu.be/bD5rP1RgrEs and http://youtu.be/6IAIFcFpdlM), he'll soon be a fully employed feline.
