PLEASANTON -- Two men attempting to rob a Pleasanton bank branch Tuesday made off with nothing after one jumped over the counter and found the cash drawers empty, police said.

About 5:48 p.m., two men entered the Chase Bank on 5800 Stoneridge Mall Road and ordered everyone inside to get on the floor, Lt. Brian Laurence said. One of the men jumped over the counter and opened the drawers, only to find them empty.

The men fled and were only in the building for about two minutes, Laurence said. No weapon was seen during the attempted robbery.

According to bank manager Tina Medeiros, the drawers were likely empty because the bank was preparing to close for the evening. The bank branch closes at 6 p.m. on weekdays.
