PLEASANTON -- Stopping to get cold medicine, some juice or even a pack of gum will become twice as easy, as two CVS Pharmacy locations are looking to open here in 2013.
The stores will be housed in two centrally located spots -- in the Safeway Gateway Center and the Rose Pavilion -- and will surpass in size of the Walgreens store also located in the Safeway Gateway Center, on Santa Rita Road and Valley Avenue.
Both new stores will include drive-thru pharmacies for prescription drop-offs or pickups. The new CVS stores will also have retail products, including items such as vitamins, books and magazines and even some groceries.
A preliminary application for the Rose Pavilion CVS drugstore with a drive-thru service has been submitted to the city. The CVS store would be located at the same location where the now-closed TGI Friday's restaurant was located. However, that building would be torn down and rebuilt to make room for the CVS Pharmacy.
Building plans must be approved by planners before a demolition permit can be issued.
Early building plans for the new CVS Pharmacy at the Safeway Gateway Center on the south edge of the parking lot next to Safeway were approved as part of that overall project.
However, plans must also go through city planners before construction can begin.
