Farmers market opens for year at Emerald Glen

The farmers' market will open its third season Thursday at Emerald Glen Park, 4201 Central Parkway. The market will be open every Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Opening night will feature cooking demonstrations, prize giveaways, live jazz music and a chance to chat informally with Dublin City Council members and the police chief.

The farmer's market is held from mid-May through September at the park.

It features music performances on the first Thursdays of the month, cooking demonstrations on the second Thursdays, community groups promoting their organizations on the third and fifth Thursdays and games and family activities on the fourth Thursdays.

LIVERMORE

Veterans to be honored at Granada High game

The Granada and Livermore high school baseball teams will compete for a good cause on Wednesday at their Livermore Veterans Appreciation Game.

Local military will be in attendance in addition to Livermore police and fire fighters.

Special guests Marine Staff Sgt. Jason Ross and Army Sgt. Christian Valle will throw out the first pitch at the game, to be held at Granada High, 400 Wall St.

The event begins at 3 p.m. with a time to meet and greet veterans, raising of the flag on the field's new flagpole, a military color guard and singing of the national anthem. The first pitch will be at 4 p.m. All veterans are invited to take part in the afternoon to celebrate their service.

There is no admission cost. There will be refreshments sold before and after the game, and raffle tickets will be sold. All proceeds benefit the guests of honor. For more information, call 925-373-0820

School videos sought from students, residents

Students and community members can release their inner Spielberg and show why "Livermore Schools Rock!" for the second annual video contest sponsored by the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce and Innovation Tri-Valley.

Participants may submit one original video of up to three minutes in one of four categories: grades K-8, high school, college and community. Video submissions will be judged based on clarity of message, creativity, and innovation by a panel of film professionals.

Winning videos will be shown at a chamber luncheon, posted on the chamber and Innovation Tri-Valley websites, and used to promote the schools, the city, and the region.

Entries must be submitted by May 24. Submissions can be sent to info@livermorechamber.org or mailed to the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce, 2157 First St., Livermore, CA 94550. Videos must be formatted in MP4, H.264, or iMovie only.
