LIVERMORE -- In September, when the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center holds its second annual acoustic guitar competition, aspiring guitarists will be able to enter a new category: singer-songwriter.

The competition marks the end of LVPAC's Guitar Fest LIVE! a three day celebration on Sept. 6-8 that will feature performances by world-class guitarists inside the Bankhead Theater -- headlining this year is rocker Rick Derringer. There will also be free outdoor concerts, guitar clinics, and a showcase of the guitar equipment.

The acoustic guitar competition is open to non-professional guitarists 18 and up, and this year, contestants can enter as an instrumental guitarist or singer-songwriter. Applications must be submitted by July 31, along with a $25 entrance fee.

The top eight finalists will be invited to perform before a live audience and a panel of judges at Blacksmith Square on South Livermore Avenue on Sept. 8. Winners will receive prize packages, including media exposure and performance opportunities.
