Police reports for Alamo, Danville and San Ramon have been temporarily interrupted during an information technology transfer from a 12-year-old system to Contra Costa County's new $1.4 million Tiburon Law Records and Law Command CAD (Computer Aided Design).

"We found out that our old system is about to be dropped," Dave Spinelli, Contra Costa County's information systems project manager, said. "We had wanted to do it (replace the CAD 2000 system) for about six years, but funding fell through."

This time funding came through and the brand new system has many more tools and maps, said Spinelli. The new Tiburon system also is expected to meet the latest federal justice data systems security requirements.

Data transfer started Sept. 9 when existing system information was put into "inquiry-only mode" and data was transferred to another server. During that time there is no data entry added to the estimated .5 terabytes in the system, Spinelli remarked.

Spinelli commented, "It is a very dynamic system. It could be another week or two before we are stable."
