DANVILLE -- Newly graduated high school seniors headed for military service had a special second ceremony this graduation season with a swearing-in event for new recruits.

The inaugural San Ramon Valley Military Swearing-in Ceremony was held for friends, family and the recruits on June 12 at the Veterans Memorial Building.

Members of local veterans groups and other supporters also attended. Those honored were:

Army: Tyler Jachowski, California High School, sworn in by retired Army Brig. Gen. Barton Gilbert.

Navy: Jordan Grabarrek, San Ramon Valley High School, sworn in by retired Navy Rear Adm. Robert Tiernan; Toby Solis, California High School, sworn in by Tiernan.

Air Force: Derek Leugan, California High School, sworn in by Air Force 1st Lt. William Harris; Alfred Komlev, Dougherty Valley High School, sworn in by Harris; and Justin Lindin, California High School, sworn in by Harris.

Marine Corps: Austinn Schmidig-Wood, Dougherty Valley High School, was sworn in by Marine Capt. Melanie Clifton; David Pinto, San Ramon Valley High School, sworn in by Clifton; Jarad Toth, San Ramon Valley High School, sworn in by Clifton; Dominic Lopez, California High School, sworn in by Clifton; Calin Jensen, San Ramon Valley High School, sworn in by Clifton.
