DANVILLE -- Friendly pirates took to the streets of downtown Danville during the first of two street festivals to be held there this summer.

Pirate night was July 10, and from 6 to 9 p.m. the streets were closed to cars, and visitors got a chance to search for treasure and visit with Capt. Jack Spareribs and the Pirates of Emerson. Children got to play in a bounce house, have their faces painted and take part in other activities as adults browsed boutiques, enjoyed the sound of strolling musicians and checked out the taste and sights of downtown at play.

Pirate night was the first of two evening outdoor street festivals being hosted by the Discover Danville Association. The other will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug, 7. This is the outdoor street festival's sixth year.
