SAN RAFAEL -- In a nonleague game void of offense and heavy on mistakes, the visiting John Swett High football team cashed in on a blocked punt late in the fourth quarter to set up the game's only touchdown as the Indians beat host San Rafael 7-0 on Friday night.

The two teams, which combined for 22 penalties, numerous bad snaps, six fumbles and five interceptions, were scoreless until Joe Iloalo's blocked punt with 3 minutes, 35 seconds remaining that set up the lone touchdown.

The blocked punt ricocheted out of bounds at the San Rafael 1-yard line. Even then, the Indians made it difficult on themselves by committing two penalties.

Finally, on a 2nd-and-11, Eric Martin scurried around left end and ran untouched into the end zone.

San Rafael coach Clay Jackson earlier in the game said jokingly on the sidelines he was not going to send out the punting team for the rest of the season after a punt was returned 82 yards by John Swett's John Sykes for a touchdown. The play was nullified by a holding penalty.

"I actually thought about not punting there for a second," Jackson said. "But we were so backed up I really didn't have a choice."

San Rafael's defense, led by the ferocious play of senior lineman Christian Dominguez, held John Swett to 130 yards.

"It gets hard not winning," Dominguez said. "You work your butt off every day in practice and we're still not winning."

The Bulldogs' only win this season, after a one-win season last year, came via forfeit in the opening week of the season. John Swett (Crockett) improved to 3-2.

"We have five sophomores on offense," Jackson said. "They're still learning the game. We're taking our lumps right now because our execution is not there yet."

Simon Wright struggled under a constant heavy pass rush, completing 9 of 26 passes and throwing four interceptions for the Bulldogs (1-5).
