WALNUT CREEK -- Led by 252 yards of rushing offense, the El Cerrito High football team ran away with a 41-0 Tri-County Athletic League-Rock Division victory over host Berean Christian on Saturday afternoon.
Senior and UCLA commit Adarius Pickett paced the Gauchos' offense with 154 yards rushing, including three touchdowns in addition to his duties playing corner.
"He's a multi-faceted player and you can see why he's had the high level of recruitment he did, and obviously UCLA will be lucky to have him this upcoming year," said El Cerrito coach Kenny Kahn, whose team, improved to 5-2 and 3-0 in TCAL-Rock Division play.
Kahn said he wanted to use this game as an opportunity to try out some new run schemes, including variations out of the pistol and wildcat formations, in order to utilize the depth the Gauchos, ranked ninth in the East Bay, have at running back. Doing so, El Cerrito scored rushing touchdowns on its first five drives of the game, leading to a running clock for the second half.
El Cerrito linebackers Keahny Harris and Jaise Griffey each had two sacks in the game. Berean Christian quarterback Max Cuddihy completed eight of 10 passes for 73 yards but could not get the Eagles (2-5, 0-3) in the end zone.
