DANVILLE — An 11-year-old boy was struck by a van near Diablo Vista Middle School in Danville on Monday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened about 3:50 p.m. on Camino Tassajara at Hansen Lane, said CHP Officer Steve Creel. The extent of the boy's injuries was not yet known.
Creel said the boy was northbound, crossing Camino Tassajara, when he was struck by a westbound Toyota Sienna. The accident broke the van's windshield.
Creel said it appeared the boy was in the intersection but was crossing against a red light. The speed limit there is 45 mph. The boy was not wearing a helmet.
Neither the name of the driver or of the boy, who was taken to Children's Hospital Oakland, was available.
