MARTINEZ -- Prosecutors on Wednesday filed 10 felony counts of child molestation against a Mt. Diablo school district custodian.

John Astor, a 44-year-old Walnut Creek resident, is charged with molesting two boys -- one in Contra Costa County this year and another in San Francisco from 1995 to 2003, deputy district attorney Johanna Schonfield said. Astor did not know the children from his work at Mt. Diablo district schools, Walnut Creek police said in a news release.

Astor worked at Cambridge and Holbrook elementary schools in Concord and at Walnut Acres Elementary in Walnut Creek, according to the school district.

Officers arrested Astor near his home Dec. 22, the day after someone reported that he had molested a boy under age 10. Astor molested that boy beginning in May and through last week, Schonfield said.

That was the second report about Astor police had received in recent months.

Someone reported in November that Astor had molested a boy in San Francisco a decade ago. Astor was charged Wednesday with molesting that boy beginning when the child was 6 years old, Schonfield said.

Astor is being held in County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail.
