The Mt. Diablo school district has abandoned its appeal of a small-claims case in which it was found negligent after a girl was dropped off at the wrong bus stop.
Greg Rolen, general counsel for the district, said Isabelle Fardella was dropped off 30 feet from her house in Pittsburg. But her parents say she was lost after being dropped in an unfamiliar spot, until a stranger helped her find her way home.
Rolen said the district was right to appeal because it was unclear who should receive the $1,085 judgment or whether the girl actually suffered post-traumatic stress disorder. However, the district abandoned the appeal because it didn't want to put Isabelle, now 7, through cross-examination, Rolen said.
The district has sent the payment to Lisa Della Rocca, Isabelle's mother, as the girl's guardian, he said.
