BERKELEY -- After a slow start, the Berkeley High girls basketball team rallied for a 56-45 win against visiting and third-seed Santa Rosa on Wednesday to advance to the North Coast Section Division I title game.

No. 2 seed Yellowjackets Berkeley (21-7), which started a little hectic and trailed 10-8 after the first quarter, was able to get back on track with an 18-point second quarter to seize the lead. From there, the Yellowjackets were firing on all cylinders and stifled the Panthers (27-4) with tough defense.

Senior Desire Finnie led all scorers with 27 points for Berkeley, which will face No. 4 Deer Valley for the title Friday at Saint Mary's College.

"We were able to stop them and get steals," Finnie said. "It's a good experience. We're a young team and a lot of people didn't think we'd make it this far."

Junior Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman also turned in a fine effort, netting 14 points.

For No. 3 seed Santa Rosa, senior Morgan Bertsch contributed 13 points, junior Kylie Oden 12 and junior Devin Murray had 11.
