MORAGA -- The Bishop O'Dowd High girls volleyball team earned a thrilling 25-17, 25-18, 19-25, 26-28, 20-18 over host and No. 1 seed Campolindo on Saturday in the North Coast Section Division III championship match. It is the first Division III championship for Bishop O'Dowd since 2009.

After No. 2 Bishop O'Dowd won the first two sets, Campolindo won the next two in heartstopping fashion to tie the match. Despite losing a two-game lead, Bishop O'Dowd coach Chad Salcido said his team's demeanor did not change, and they knew they still needed just one more game to win the title.

Salcido said that the team responded the leadership of libero Kyle Carlson.

"She's the heart and soul of the team," Salcido said. "Everybody listens to her."

Along with Carlson, Bryanna Davis contributed 17 kills and Navah Evans had five.

Kelley Wirth led Campolindo with 26 kills. Kirsten Sibley had 16 kills and Kaylyn Murray had 10 for the Cougars.

Prior to the loss, Campolindo had won two titles in three years. Both schools entered the match on six-game win streaks and were undefeated in conference. It was the first time the two schools met this season.
