Berkeley High pitcher Noah Bremer was rewarded for a masterful performance on the mound when Zachary Copeland drove in David Langer for the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning as the Yellowjackets baseball team beat Bishop O'Dowd 2-1 in 8 innings on Friday.

Bremer, a Washington-bound right-hander, allowed three hits and struck out eight while working all eight innings for the Yellowjackets (13-7, 4-4 WACC-Foothill). He threw 92 pitches.

"My fastball was really lively throughout the whole game and my off-speed was working really well, but honestly I had great defense behind me," Bremer said.

His counterpart, O'Dowd sophomore Leo Nierenberg, was equally dominant. The righty allowed an unearned run in the second inning, but gave up just four hits and struck out five.

When Nierenberg exited after throwing 92 pitches in seven innings, Berkeley took advantage with two hits and a walk in the top of the eighth off reliever Shane Farley.

"Once that run came around I was pumping my fists and I was hyped up because I felt confident enough I could win us the game and shut it down," Bremer said.

Bremer retired the Dragons in order in the bottom half of the inning to improve to 7-0 on the season and prevent O'Dowd from clinching the WACC-Foothill title. But even with the loss, the Dragons (14-8, 6-2 WACC-Foothill) are still alone in first place in the division standings with two games to play.

Bremer was perfect through three innings before O'Dowd tied the game in the fourth. David Kyriacou led off with a long single and, after a sacrifice and wild pitch, scored on Channing Nesbitt's squeeze bunt.

Berkeley scored its first run in the second when Darien Demery, who reached on an infield single, scored on a throwing error after Alex Rowland singled.

Both teams threatened in the seventh, but Bremer and Nierenberg each worked out of jams to send the game to extra innings.
