HAYWARD -- Quarterback Christian Leota passed for 225 of his 283 yards and all three of his touchdowns in the second half, as the visiting James Logan High football team came back to earn a 28-14 win over Tennyson on Saturday afternoon.

"Dealing with adversity is something we try to preach a lot," Colts coach George Zuber said. "When we have to do it, and we pull it off, it's a real building block."

Tennyson took a 14-0 lead into halftime. Tavite Lopeti opened the scoring with a 29-yard touchdown run, and the Lancers increased their lead with 2 minutes, 18 second to go in the first half on a 41-yard halfback touchdown pass from Jhayvee Daily to Jacob Watson.

But James Logan responded immediately after halftime, moving the opening drive of the half 69 yards in eight plays. The drive was capped when Leota hit Keonte Taylor in stride with a beautiful pass for a 30-yard touchdown.

Leota connected with Ahmari Davis for a 48-yard touchdown on Logan's next drive, then the Colts took the lead for the first time with 9:14 remaining on a 93-yard touchdown from Leota to Taylor. A 1-yard run by Izaiah Paopao with 3:46 to go was the final touchdown of the game.

But Tennyson wasn't finished moving the ball. On its final possession of the game, Lancers quarterback Christian Silva ran for 34 yards and passed for 35 yards to move Tennyson to the Colts 1. But on a fourth-down play, Logan's Lucas DeLaVega intercepted a pass to end the drive with 1:03 remaining.

Silva finished with 143 yards passing and a team-high 76 yards rushing. Logan's Davis led all rushers with 99 yards on the ground.

"What went wrong is that we gave up some big plays in the secondary, and we didn't finish off our drives," Tennyson coach Terry Smith said. "Give credit to them. They regrouped and came back. ... It lets us know where we are. Our mistakes are easy fixes."
