The word "macrobiotic" comes from Greek roots and means "long life." Contra Costa Musical Theatre's "Oliver!" — through Nov. 7. Family musical which is a little bit scary and a lot of fun. This heartwarming tale with singable tunes tells the story of a young and much-maligned orphan boy. The musical opens in a London workhouse. It is mealtime and the orphan Oliver and the other workhouse boys are about to eat the one bowl of gruel they are allotted each day. Upon drawing the short straw, Oliver is chosen by the other boys to ask for more gruel.
