Eagles football wins, makes NCS

  • Logan Lisle ran for all three Eagle touchdowns and 128 yards as Berean Christian won its BFL finale 25-13 over Harker-San Jose on Nov. 13. The win helped the Eagles earn second place in the BFL and qualify for the NCS Division IV playoffs. Berean Christian (9-2) earned the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Justin-Siena on Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.

    Vikings end season with loss

  • The Diablo Valley College football team brought the 2009 season to a close on Nov. 14 with a 49-28 loss to host College of San Mateo. Joe Jointer ran for 125 yards and Blake Wayne had 128 yards passing in the loss. The Vikings finished the season 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the NorCal Conference.

    Miramonte tennis reaches NCS semis

  • The Matadors' girls tennis team advanced as far as the semifinals of the NCS team tennis tournament before falling to eventual champion Mission San Jose 4-3 on Nov. 14. Meg Andersen won at No. 4 singles while the doubles teams of Tamar McCollom and Anne Barber and Tyler Townsend and Alyssa Wendt were also victorious against the Warriors. The Matadors finished the season with a 24-2 record with both of their losses coming to Mission San Jose. It was Miramonte's best

    Carondelet athletes swim in Europe

  • A trio of Carondelet swimmers recently competed in a FINA World Cup swimming event held in Berlin and Stockholm. Madison White competed in the 200 backstroke, Chelsea Chenault in the 200 freestyle and Allison Gargalikis in the 100 breaststroke. The three swimmers are part of the U.S. Swimming National Youth team and competed against the top youth swimmers in other countries.

  • Hayward at Las Lomas, football, Nov. 21, 7 p.m. — The No. 7 seeded Knights qualified for the playoffs for the third straight year and earned a first-round home game despite a 5-5 overall record. Las Lomas had a tough schedule early on, but its rushing game has recently taken off behind Marquis Waters.

  • NCS Championships, cross country, Nov. 21, 9 a.m. — The top local runners will convene at Hayward High's cross country course where they will try to qualify for the CIF state championships. The Campolindo and College Park boys are defending champions in their respective divisions and both won league titles again this year.

  • Bishop O'Dowd at Alhambra, football, Nov. 21, 7 p.m. — The No. 3 Bulldogs host the No. 14 Dragons in the first round of the NCS Division III playoffs. Priority No. 1 for Alhambra will be to stop Bishop O'Dowd's two-pronged running attack of Mario Brown and Trenton Trammell.

  • Lucas Gorton, Las Lomas football — Gorton rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns while also completing all six of his passes for 124 yards in the Knights' 63-21 win over Campolindo on Nov. 13.

  • Jillian Matsuoka, Berean Christian volleyball — The Eagles' libero had 22 digs in a first-round NCS win over Ursaline, then followed that up with 19 digs and two kills in a three-set quarterfinal upset win over Piedmont on Nov. 14.

  • Vince Ferrante, College Park football — Ferrante ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries to lead the Falcons to a 53-26 win over Ygnacio Valley on Nov. 13 at DVC.

  • Jared Leaf, Alhambra football — With Richard Calhoun getting most of the carries, Leaf made his own mark in a 40-27 win over visiting Miramonte on Nov. 13. He rushed for 74 yards and caught two passes for 40 yards and a touchdown.

  • Mary Diamantidis, Miramonte volleyball — Diamantidis did a little bit of everything in the top-seeded Matadors' NCS Division III quarterfinal win over Sonoma Valley, tallying 8 kills, 5 blocks and 21 assists.

  • Alicia Flatt, Carondelet volleyball — Flatt had 32 assists and 11 digs to lead the Cougars to a 25-14, 25-23, 25-15 win over visiting Windsor in a NCS Division II quarterfinal.

  • Forrest Hightower, Concord football — Hightower ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns and also caught two passes for 47 yards in a 28-21 win over visiting Mt. Diablo on Nov. 13.

  • Alex Toohey, Campolindo girls water polo — Toohey was the Cougars' leading scorer in each the team's final three games of the NCS tournament, leading them to a runner up finish. She had 12 goals total over the three games, including 7 in a quarterfinal win against Drake. She was also named the DFAL MVP after helping the Cougars win the league title.
