Las Lomas' March 7 Jazz Band and Chorale will perform at the Walnut Creek Education Foundation's "Play It Forward" at the Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown Walnut Creek.
This is a benefit for the education foundation.
Greg Errico, a founding member of Sly and the Family Stone, is scheduled to sit in as drummer, and Walnut Creek's Carlos Reyes, who has played with several name musicians including Steve Miller and Roy Rogers, will also play. The guest vocalist will be Jamie Davis.
And on Friday, March 15 the Big Band Swing Dance, featuring music by the Las Lomas Jazz Band at Zio Fraedo Restaurant, 611 Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill. It starts at 7 p.m.' tickets are $40 per person and $70 per couple.

The Walnut Creek Library Foundation celebrates poetry with the fifth annual student poetry contest, encouraging young writers to stretch their imaginations and dream big. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Contra Costa County Library, "My Special Place" is the theme for this year's contest.
Students at Walnut Creek schools are invited to enter. The contest is free and all participants will receive a poetry contestant certificate. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in four grade level categories: K-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Finalists will be judged by students in the Saint Mary's College Master of Fine Arts program.
Entires must be submitted by March 13.
Contest winners will read their poems at the Walnut Creek Library at a poetry celebration and award ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27. All contest entrants are encouraged to attend. Selected poems may be published on the Walnut Creek Library Foundation website.
